  • Substance Recovery

We provide detox from both alcohol and opiate use, one to one support, peer support and group activity sessions where we look at the issues surrounding a persons substance use, we also promote health and fitness were we encourage and support service users to improve health and fitness, we do this by various means such as football on our on site 3G football pitch, our modern Gym, boxing swim and sauna.

  • Repurpose

Purpose in life is paramount in relation to a person's recovery and we not only support service users to deal with the issues relating to their addiction but our re-settlement support worker supports men to formulate a detailed plan in regards to housing, employment, further education and community based recovery communities/ Using our resources and established relationships within these areas gives men the best opportunity moving forward, we not only support our service users during their stay but also provide aftercare for as long as is required.

  • Restoration

We support Men on their journey of recovery believing that restoration in 5 key areas is very important in regards to long term abstinence. These are Spiritualy, relationally, physically emotionally and psychologically and we also believe that restoration in these key areas brings wholeness and healing to a persons life. This is achieved by the commitment of our staff team who have a real passion for the work of the haven, we support men on a 1-1 basis on a journey of change dealing with all of the areas mentioned above through support sessions, counselling and pastoral care, We promote health and fitness and encourage men to play football, exercise in the gym or local boxing club which we have access to. We are committed to not only our service users but their families also and work with them where possible to see those relationships restored too.

The Haven’s Journey

  • In 1989 Roy Lees was working with families and individuals in the Glasgow and Paisley areas and became burdened by the desperate needs he saw. He had a vision to see these men, who were trapped in the grip of poverty, crime and addiction, being offered hope and the opportunity to have a safe place away from their immediate environment. He contacted David Black, a friend and farmer about the use of the shepherd’s cottage within his family’s farmland in the Kilmacolm countryside. From this early vision The Haven was birthed. A link was later formed with Teen Challenge, a Christian charity established initially in New York but now operating worldwide, with the aim to address society’s drug problem. Since then, the work of The Haven and its facility has grown and developed significantly and operates from its complex of buildings on the site of the former shepherd’s cottage.

  • John 10:10 10 'The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.' We do this work at the Haven because we want to see men set free from the bondage of addiction and to walk into newness of life and the plans that God has for them. Our Pastoral Care; We take is a Biblical based approach to pastoral care which first introduces the men to a God who is a 'loving God' and that they matter to him. We also want our residents to see that he is a 'living God' and that he has the power to help them achieve that which they have not been able to do by themselves i.e.; break free from the bondage of addiction. We use the bible to help the men see that change is possible and that it is a 2 factored process that requires not only stopping harmful destructive habits but also starting to practice new life promoting habits that will help them to walk into newness of life and all that that brings with it. God is love and He is able to bring transformation, restoration and freedom.
