The Haven’s Journey
-
In 1989 Roy Lees was working with families and individuals in the Glasgow and Paisley areas and became burdened by the desperate needs he saw. He had a vision to see these men, who were trapped in the grip of poverty, crime and addiction, being offered hope and the opportunity to have a safe place away from their immediate environment. He contacted David Black, a friend and farmer about the use of the shepherd’s cottage within his family’s farmland in the Kilmacolm countryside. From this early vision The Haven was birthed. A link was later formed with Teen Challenge, a Christian charity established initially in New York but now operating worldwide, with the aim to address society’s drug problem. Since then, the work of The Haven and its facility has grown and developed significantly and operates from its complex of buildings on the site of the former shepherd’s cottage.

John 10:10 10 'The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.' We do this work at the Haven because we want to see men set free from the bondage of addiction and to walk into newness of life and the plans that God has for them. Our Pastoral Care; We take is a Biblical based approach to pastoral care which first introduces the men to a God who is a 'loving God' and that they matter to him. We also want our residents to see that he is a 'living God' and that he has the power to help them achieve that which they have not been able to do by themselves i.e.; break free from the bondage of addiction. We use the bible to help the men see that change is possible and that it is a 2 factored process that requires not only stopping harmful destructive habits but also starting to practice new life promoting habits that will help them to walk into newness of life and all that that brings with it. God is love and He is able to bring transformation, restoration and freedom.
